I ask this question every 6 months on various group chats but thought it would be fun to ask here: what do you think will be a mainstream consumer adopted crypto application or use case over next 5 years. Think 100m+ DAU. The only catch is: you can’t pick what you’re working on or directly involved with. :)

I expect within the next 5 years, we will have many 100m+ DAU onchain apps, including: - text based onchain social feed - media based onchain social feed - payments (both P2P and commerce) - savings / primary financial account - trading the infra is finally ready and the flip will happen faster than people expect.

Honestly: p2p payments. Sounds boring, but it’s what crypto is best at, and it’s just going to take a couple of external events for us to hit 100M+ The difference between ACHing into Venmo or Bridging into Daimo is negligible. UX is ready. Just missing a crystallization moment(s).

Post-crypto: dating/finding friends. Matches just get so much better if anybody can contribute filters and algos. Basically dating/finding friends goes long tail

a deepfake and bot-gated social media platform (perhaps a farcaster client). the problems caused by the above issues are widespread and known to all, much more so than most problems crypto has vocalized in solving. "Freeing the world's attention" is a powerful north star for the future of decentralized apps.

I think NFT collectibles (like @jvmi swatches) will become a new creator economy, today it is small and led by pioneers, but creators building an onchain brand, selling some merch in $50-$200k will become the norm

based on the principles of starbucks card but for crypto natives — could be explored with different/untapped models of lending + networking + status https://x.com/jp_koning/status/1160387043790413824

depending on the way that AI takes off, proof of humanity infra could easily go to 100m+ DAU if it needs to be baked into existing systems

It depends on if you count non-human agents as users, but my best guess would be prediction markets
