Until we awaken and experience the creative power that slumbers in human thinking, we moderns will think Prayer to be the most absurd thing imaginable.

Just read: “Anything that catches your eye is actually looking for you.” Living with this conviction and IN this conviction brings all the proof that you will need.

September is a mighty month for change. A time for courage and for hidden things to come to light. By change, I don't want anything having to do with the political life we have today, whether in the form of marches on the street, keyboard warriors, podcasts, swarms of donations. I would love for us to pray for one another.

Has anyone else noticed the quality of the sky, the clouds, the sunsets changing in recent weeks in their part of the world? It’s not the transition to Fall. It’s something else.

I often think my work is helping to make the world a better place. Then I get into a fight with my person and am instantly triggered to act like a petulant 6 year old. Or I get on a customer service call with someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing and instantly lose my cool. So difficult to enact - our relationships and all the ways we’re triggered are the spiritual practice, not the time on the cushion, not the mission driven career.

I get chills so many times a day, just thinking about how miraculous life is, this earth, the things we can do with our minds and our bodies. We are each legit starring in the most incredible sci fi film imaginable, in a way that most people cannot yet fathom. I’ve begun scribbling about this in a newsletter, but will try to share more here to find friends who are interested in building together. s/o @dwayne - much love to you.

"At first you're just struggling to keep up, but the more time you spend on the web, the more you are in control. You move from bewilderment to a sense of increasing mastery." - Tyler Cowen What are the tools that are indispensable to you in this journey?

Yes, I use a QUESTION tag w/ Roam too (very often as you can see). But the UI there puts the tool at the center. Napkin seems like it's very much in the vein of calm computing, the tool receding, bc-ing invisible & effortless. https://i.imgur.com/wgO32hw.png

You may have noticed in earlier cast another game-changer: the QUESTION tag. Napkin gives me an incredible way to surface the half-formed intuitions. (An awesome mystery, this! To know just enough about something to understand fundamentally that you do not yet understand it the way you are destined to!)

No name feels like plagiarism. But in this form, the thoughts break over me like an ocean wave. The moment I make the metadata visible again - indispensable as all the minutiae is, the experience changes. The quality of thinking becomes more point-like, less fluid. https://i.imgur.com/Fjyf5Om.png

Chaos! I'm simultaneously testing several new tools for thought, but I already know - FEEL - when something lands. Napkin & this moment. Initially, I attributed quotes. But the name dangled at the end, ruined flow. https://i.imgur.com/aFubYEy.png

I keep wishing that there was one tool for thought that does it all for me. and given how much i've invested in building up my roam database to date, I am def feeling reluctant to look for greener pastures.

Launching a new event series on collective intelligence & tools for thought and wisdom. startupy, Roam, are.na, napkin, scrintal, heptabase... what am I missing, friends? what tools do you use and what does your note-taking/research/writing workflow look like?
