Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has released his latest article "The Future Development of the Ethereum Protocol (Part 5): ThePurge", stating that one of the challenges facing Ethereum is that by default, the expansion and complexity of any blockchain protocol will grow over time. This occurs in two places: historical data and protocol characteristics. In order for Ethereum to sustain itself in the long term, strong counter pressure needs to be exerted on these two trends, reducing complexity and bloating over time. But at the same time, it is necessary to preserve one of the great features of blockchain: permanence. The key goal of ThePurge is to reduce client storage requirements by reducing or eliminating the need for each node to permanently store all historical records, and may even ultimately declare it; Reduce protocol complexity by eliminating unnecessary features. @ftiioma
