you don’t get adoption by recreating the same thing over again, inside of a new medium you get adoption by making a thing so novel it feels magical, it feels lived in, and it feels real

Disagree! Do something over again just with a different look and name and get a mass following. Much like a movie remake. (Think spiderman) or say nospace, literally MySpace for those of us that remember its existence. Not saying that a novel approach is not welcomed and refreshing. But old song remakes can make you feel you discovered the world if you never heard original. Just a different perspective!
