Never mind me, I get stuck on being a strict cartesian... literally that I can't know anything beyond that there's an "I" and that the "I" is a thing experiencing a "thought".
Not trying to be a smartass, I just can't get any lower than that in my own thinking, and from there, I can't know that there aren't metacognitive "intelligences" composed of light, or the opposite of matter, or whatever.
RE: computers being the physical bodies of AI, I imagine that consciousness may be a phenomenon that manifests in discrete units within a container, or across many containers, or that it may match its container perfectly, which would make consciousness the 1 thing that exists, perpetually examining itself... by using... itself.
Just a guess :) 0 reply
