What’s your earliest memory of really finding yourself and your people through internet culture (MySpace, forums, chat rooms, Tumblr etc) and how do you think that younger you would recreate this experience in the current internet era? Would it be possible?

Neopets is where I learned the basics of HTML and where I first got addicted to internet communities. Shoutout to the Neoboards!!!!

I find mouthwords much hard than fingerwords, so grateful I live in the golden age of connecting with people via fingerwords

I enjoyed Neopets, but it also felt like a little bit of a childhood introduction to how communities/platforms could decline (I guess what adults would call “enshittificatiion”). It seemed like over a few years there got to be more sponsored instead of original games, & like certain site mechanics were simplified.

Was the lead engineer at NeoPets (10/2000 - 11/2002)

Focused on scaling (30m+ users), security (hackers), but also built guilds & games

After NP, had some success/exits as founder/cto (+ many lessons), 30+ 😇  investments

Love builders, helpers, and of course, Farcaster

Feel like a trip back to Neopia? 🙃
