Step 1: Setting Up Your VPS for Taiko Hekla Node

Minimum :
2 CPU cores
4 GB RAM, 
1 TB of storage, 
and an 8 Mbit/s internet connection 

Recommended : 
4 or more CPU cores, 
16 GB RAM, 
1 TB SSD, 
and a 25 Mbit/s internet connection.

Step 3: Install Docker’s Using the apt repository

Step 4: Create a Holesky RPC Endpoint
1. Create an account on drpc.org.
2. Generate an API Key specifically for ETH holesky.
Note: Copy HTPP url and Wss url for next step

Step 6: Set Up and Run a Simple Taiko Node

sudo screen -S taiko

cp .env.sample .env

nano .env
(ENTER)

Now, replace the placeholder values in your .env file with the Holesky RPC endpoints you prepared in Step 4:

Run as a proposer:

1. Locate the ENABLE_PROPOSER setting in your .env file.
2. Set ENABLE_PROPOSER to true.
3. Insert the Metamask wallet private key you prepared in Step 5 into L1_PROPOSER_PRIVATE_KEY.
4. Assign your Metamask wallet address to L2_SUGGESTED_FEE_RECIPIENT.
5. Modify BLOCK_PROPOSAL_FEE to 30.

Fill PROVER_ENDPOINTS:

Fill PROVER_ENDPOINTS to: http://kenz-prover.hekla.kzvn.xyz:9876, http://hekla.stonemac65.xyz:9876

Ensure to save your changes by pressing Ctrl + X, then confirm with ‘Yes’ to exit and save .env file.

Start your node:

docker compose --profile l2_execution_engine up -d

Before exiting vps session, safely detach by using the keyboard shortcut CTRL + A + D. When you need to return to the running Taiko Hekla node screen, simply log back into your VPS and execute:

screen -r taiko
