In the early days of Bitcoin, my friend Jake was obsessed. Back in 2011, he convinced me to use an old laptop to mine some coins, but I was skeptical and didn't follow through. Jake, on the other hand, spent hours every night mining Bitcoin. We all teased him, calling it "Jake's imaginary money." Fast forward to 2017, Bitcoin's value skyrocketed. Jake called me up, laughing hysterically. He had cashed out a significant chunk and bought his dream car, a Tesla. He reminded me of our old conversations, and I couldn't help but laugh too. It was a lesson in believing in emerging technologies and taking calculated risks. Now, every time I see a Tesla, I think of Jake and his "imaginary money" that became very real.
