Do people actually consciously make a judgement about quality of service when they tip??! I always just mindlessly add 15-20%. So the whole "tipping incentivizes quality of service" argument has always seemed unrealistic to me. https://x.com/tracewoodgrains/status/1826601506885320775

My first summer job was gas station attendant, I was earning only tips, and my mum was waitress, her income was largely dependant on tips. She was keeping the yellow coins for me (5 cents of one Swiss Franc) so I can buy candy, such things wire the brain a certain way. I tip low income services as often as i can.
