How to start a clothing brand ? 1. Have a design (whether in your head or drawn) 2. Find a pattern maker. Your pattern maker will work with you on your design. 3. Find a fabric supplier (and your other materials like zippers, buttons, etc). There are trade shows you can go to, the biggest one in CA is the LA Textile show in LA. Know what kind of fabric you're getting and whether or not you'll have the quantity of fabric needed during production time. 4. Get a sample made. Sometimes your pattern maker can connect you with a factory or seamstress to help you make a sample 5. Test out fit. After you've gotten your sample made, you'll probably have to adjust your fit several times or even dozens of times. 6. Grade. "Grading" just means sizing. Once you're comfortable with your one sample size, you'll have to grade your pattern for other sizes. You'll have to make samples of those and test how those sizes fit on other models. 7. Get a manufacturer. 8. Get a showroom.
