last night we had extreme heat and the cicadas here just popped off for about an hour before a wicked thunderstorm came through. it was so cool... and as it was storming i thought about what a wild thing for those cicadas to  emerge into and have their moment.

Your story about last night is really cool and special. A few years ago, there was an eclipse in the summer, and when everything went dark, it got so silent. All the birds and insects suddenly stopped. It was so eerie and lovely. Very similar moment, I think, to what you are describing.
