I always thought it was a play on all the generic NFT projects. 'The Somethings'. Or 'Adjective Animal'.

Yea I think it kind of is. The name combined with the idea of people willfully choosing to self-identify as cans of spam or sponges or airplanes onchain results in a certain innate absurdity that makes nouns a lot of fun.
