In the past, the relationship between DeFi protocols and oracles was a simple buyer-seller relationship. DeFi protocols paid for oracle services, and oracles often had to use up their project tokens to keep prices low. This was unsustainable in the long run. OEV changes this dynamic. OEV is similar to Maximum Extractable Value (MEV), but MEV extracts value in the process of securing transactions, while OEV extracts value in the process of updating the Oracle. Instead of just providing data, oracles can now capture value that would otherwise be captured by others through MEV (Maximum Extractable Value), and can share the captured value with DeFi protocols. This approach creates a win-win situation: DeFi protocols gain additional income that would not otherwise be available, and oracles find a new, sustainable way.
