something i read that made a lot of sense - in terms of building a team

"being generous as a king / prince is not a good thing. 

because if you are a king and generous, people get accustomed to your generosity, and forget the world before that. 

and then you have to increase taxes, or other things, to continuous being generous - and then those people themselves go after you.

instead, as a king, you need to be a different thing, but you need to project bunch of values


virtuous
moralistic 
generous 
ritualistic
religious 

these are things when you project over the society that resonates with you - these are things that help you stay in that power for much longer"
