AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) is still a long way off, as current AI is narrow and task-specific. Major breakthroughs needed for AGI include transfer learning, meta-learning, neuroscience-inspired AI, and better algorithms. Predicting when AGI will arrive is difficult, with estimates ranging from decades to over a century. The next big breakthroughs will likely come from improving AI's ability to reason, adapt, and generalize across multiple domains.
