What's the difference between a company's vision and a narrative?

My take: The vision is for the founders, a lens for when they need to make hard decisions. The narrative is for the consumers, a schelling point to fit what the moment calls for. It's something people can rally around and want others to join them for.

I came to read the most obvious comment about a temporal and cultural difference, and those comments were nowhere to be found. I would say that vision is a fundamental believe for the long term future you are trying to realize as a founder. Narrative is some short term sidetrack to grab extra attention opportunistically.

The vision provides the destination, while the narrative explains the journey toward that destination.

vision is the world they want to make happen. narrative is what they tell people they want to make happen. they may not be the same. usually founders envision themselves in ferraris and shit.

Narrative is how you will ride the meta to win. Vision is where you're riding the meta to.
