Fun fact: As an Ontario resident earning regular income of $150K CAD, you'd pay a total of 31.6% in taxes. As a California resident earning $150K USD, you'd pay more in taxes: 32.5%. It's also hard to appreciate how expensive it is to be self-employed in the US, health insurance costs range from $200-2000/mo (median around $500/mo last I checked). Only option is to incorporate, raise funding, and get group insurance. Bootstrapping is incredibly risky, in ways that is fairly safe in Canada.

Good post but the numbers looks bad when compared to other cities with much less income tax. Also yes Insurance is expense but vice versa is true for housing here in Canada
