Money is an energy that shapes our society, but there are others. Let's talk about Trust. Like quantities of money, we can have *qualities* of trust. While low quality trust is often broken, high quality trust can be used as a robust foundation for the future. Quality of trust also shapes our society, and it's rapidly changing. Our social movements and institutions are responding to the shifting qualities of trust. We *crave* more high quality trust as we become burned out from low quality trust. We want to make reliable commitments long into the future. We want to plant trees in whose shade we will not get to sit while being assured that they will be allowed to grow past tomorrow. Some technologies enable us to increase our quality of trust, while others can erode it. We can write to improve understanding, or to sow confusion. For the health of society, quality of trust can be even more important than quantity of money. Let's increase the quality of trust in our lives.

My sweet spot Farcaster narrative right now: Small community of high quality people doing lots of interesting things in a novel environment. The last time I've met so many online friends IRL was 2010 era Twitter. Just had a lovely poker night with 5 Farcasters and 1 normie. Not crypto bros but a candle maker, a realtor with a sick motorcycle, a StatsCan employee... and it was nice to point and say "yea this is Farcaster" as we warpletted the outstanding balance to each other for $0.00035 in fees in under 5 seconds.

Why would old men not plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit? Is it simply not wanting others to have what they themselves cannot? Or perhaps there's not enough reliable trust in society to assure that the tree will remain there for any amount of time? Long term investment can't happen under volatile and low quality trust conditions.

What if USDC was also an appchain rollup sequenced by Circle? It could still be used as a normal ERC20 on the respective chains' contracts (e.g. for defi), but at any time I could "lock" my balance and that would effectively bridge it into the rollup. We're trusting Circle to custody and not freeze the RWA anyway, so the "inherited security" of L1 for rollup transfers could be minimal and thus very inexpensive, it could even be entirely offchain (though I suspect compliance would make it easier to keep it somewhat onchain). Bridging back onchain would be just a matter of "unlocking" the balance on the desired chain later (which Circle's sequencer would validate and mint/destroy accordingly). Lock on Solana, unlock on Base.
