Training for my first half marathon. I’ve got about four months. Any advice from experienced runners? Things you wished you knew before you ran your first marathon / half marathon?

controversial take - run 5km repeats instead of trying to constantly up the miles (just do longer run 1x/week) Running shorter distances faster and faster builds your lung capacity and ability to run for longer

Agreed that this is controversial 😅 Running short distances faster helps you run short distances faster (anaerobic) Running longer distances helps you run longer distances (aerobic). Ideal training plan has a mix of both but if this is your first half marathon imo it's better to run longer and slower more often

Yeah for your first longer race, I'd just focus on making sure you can run that far without injury, which means slowly increasing (slow) mileage. You can worry about adding speed for subsequent races

Thanks for the tip. I am going to prioritize mileage first, and once I feel More comfortable running longer distances will start to incorporate more speed work
