It’s Sunday which means it’s Crypto weekly 🧵 time with me and @maaria: Crypto saw a modest rebound this week, following a broader market rally sparked by the Federal Reserve’s decision to keep interest rates unchanged. The total crypto market cap, along with BTC and ETH, rose by 3%, 2%, and 6% respectively week over week. Here are my favorite stories: -The US Treasury Department removed sanctions on cryptocurrency mixer Tornado Cash that were imposed in 2022. -The total market cap for stablecoins reached over $230 billion, up 56% from the same time last year. USDT and USDC make up almost 90% of the stablecoin market. -Speaking of USDT, Tether is engaging with a "Big Four" accounting firm to audit its reserves. Tether has gotten its fair share of criticism over the years over the transparency of it's reserves.

It’s Sunday which means it’s Crypto weekly 🧵 time with me and @maaria: Crypto was not immune from the market wide sell-off of risk assets caused by Trump's numerous tariff announcements this week. Bitcoin fell as low as $77k and Ethereum fell below $1800 for the first time since 2023. Gold on the other hand reached an all time high of $3000/oz. Here are my favorite stories: -The Senate Banking Committee is pushing forward stablecoin legislation with the GENIUS Act. The draft legislation creates a framework for regulating privately-issued stablecoins – states would have oversight over stablecoin issuers with a market capitalization under $10 billion, while larger issuers would be regulated by the Federal Reserve and banking regulator the OCC. -US residents reportedly missed out on between $1.8 - $5 billion of cryptocurrency from airdrops due to geoblocking restrictions, costing federal and state governments between $284 million to $1.1 billion in tax revenue.

been seeing more takes that a big reason for ETH's poor performance this cycle is because of the decline of NFTs. While NFTs did play a part in ETH's last bull run, it was really only the last 2x (ETH was at $2500 around the time NFT summer started). It was DeFi that really put ETH on the map, and made it the best place to launch said NFTs because of the available liquidity.
