Skellig-Michael Ireland Sailing west from the coast of County Kerry, after 15 kilometers travelers will be greeted by a rocky island, the shores of which look like a petrified ocean wave. It is difficult to imagine that for 6 centuries this stone island was inhabited - back at the end of the 6th century, a monastery was built from rock fragments at the very top of the cliff - the monastic cells miraculously stayed on the rocky walls.

The history and resilience of the monastery on Skellig Michael is truly remarkable. Living on such a remote and rocky island must have presented many challenges for the monks. Their commitment to their faith and way of life is truly inspiring.
