Anyone have interesting conclusions to this chart? I’m struggling to come up w meaningful long-term positive implications.

my maybe naive take here is that i marriage is a proxy to the family unit. and through that lens, my q is actually how does the fall of the family unit lead to a better world.

Before it was go to college, get a career, married, house, kids. Now college doesn’t guarantee anything except debt. Most jobs barely cover the cost of living. Media imposes an “impending doom” that someone is always out to do u harm which makes people overly cautious (not that it’s a bad thing to be cautious). Makes it hard to support someone else when we can barely support ourselves most of the time

Later generations are less committed? More selfish? More independent? Every strength is a weakness and every weakness is a strength, so it’s not bad, it’s just different.

I think these charts fail to show the impact of globalization on marriage Having more access to finding one’s partner probably makes people less likely to “settle down” as early There’s also been a big shift in work dynamics within relationships and exponential costs for raising children I think if there were more assistance to families, people wouldn’t be so hesitant to have children I’m actually surprised there aren’t more subsidies to encourage having children as we already see other countries looking to reverse population decline trends

it seems most people sharing this are concerned about birth rate, but you don’t need to be married to have kids, just ask elon

They had more social pressure than our generation I guess. Deconstructing the "nuclear family" model could lead to more solidarity between people (rather than "only parents can take care of kids")

Less births, less people. Easier to control. Inflation is going warp speed now. Buckle up for 2025.

The word marriage is decided by a legal process/documentation. The lack of a marriage doesn't mean these types of relationships aren't happening. I think younger generations are reimagining what the right relationships look like for themselves. And maybe that comes with relationship documentation and maybe not. For some, religious requirements may also play a role in the decision to marry or not. Positive?? implications - marriage isn't required to thrive. People can develop the lives that are most fulfilling to them - including marriage or not. Society expands beyond status quo/rigid views and explores other types of relationships/ways of togetherness.
