I had intended Coinbase..Now. it’s in MetaMask, and says I need to buy a minuscule amount of a suspicious looking coin called DEG

that doesnt make sense, don't buy deg. never even heard of it, you should be able to transfer the degen from your meta to your cb wallet using a small amount of base eth for the gas
