I gave google all my data, and all I got was this lousy email account. I gave facebook all my data, and all I got was this lousy message app. --- I went down a bit of a rabbit hole this week and read chapters of radical markets. Even though they didn't suggest the concept of data a labour that long ago (~2018), it was before it's time, and now it is more relevant than ever -- https://sci-hub.se/10.1257/pandp.20181003 I am grappling with the reality that for all the services we use for free on the internet, it was always explicit that I was the product; I was there to be sold too, and they sold my data to sell to me. I was okay for that exchange. However, now this has changed. I am no longer the product, I am the labourer. They are using my words, and my thoughts to train their models. So one day they can sell it back to the businesses that hires me for my labour so they no longer need to pay for my labour. For what? A gmail account and facebook messenger? This no longer feels like a fair exchange.

definitely not a fair exchange. that's why it's important to give them as little as possible and avoid any that are asking too much!
