My nose has never looked the same since I was snowboarding in Austria in my 20s. I faceplanted in ice and it was so cold that I didn't realize I had hurt it, let alone broken it seriously. I didn't notice that I was covered in blood because I was having so much fun, until my friends saw me and freaked out. So, I went into the bathroom, straightened it out as well as I could, and put a tampon in each nostril and called it a day.
Apparently, taking your pointer and middle finger and putting them on either side of your nose and pulling away from yourself isn't anything near straight because your arm pulls to one side.
Who knew?
By the time the swelling went away and I realized how not straight it was, it was too late to fix without having it broken again, and I wasn't about to go through that, so I've just dealt with it.
To this day, the way it's bent leaves a blood vessel in one nostril closer to the surface than it should be, and so I get easy nosebleeds.
Anyways, that's a bit of a tangential explanation. 1 reply
