Got to see the daylight DC1 in person yesterday at @edgecity ā˜€ļø New screen tech that is basically super e-ink, very fast refresh rate. Can see in direct sunlight and has a warm backlight that doesnā€™t emit any blue light indoors. Feels great in hand and the knit cases are cool too.

Isnā€™t this actually LCD? I wish it was actually e-ink, so Remarkable 2 is still better.

How can you make that statement without trying it? šŸ¤” It is a new custom display cannot equate it to anything else on the market right now.

Based on his own statements on Hacker News. They havenā€™t been totally forward about what the tech actually is. And definitely arenā€™t calling it e-ink. I donā€™t think itā€™s possible currently to get to 60fps with e-ink. It has to be something else. E-paper is likely a name for a different type of LCD.

Really think you should try it yourself before casting judgement ā€” Itā€™s great. It works in direct sunlight, doesnā€™t emit blue light, and has a super fast refresh rate. Why is it so important that itā€™s technically ā€œe-inkā€ ?

For sure. Iā€™d still love to see it up close. But I donā€™t want to pay $800 to wait until the fall to try it. I donā€™t need a device like this that badly. Would love for it to not be LCD so that it is good for reducing eye strain. The other pluses are nullified a bit if thatā€™s true.
