I still think a lot of people are underestimating how many new users Coinbase is going to bring onchain with Base.

I like to think of Base as Coinbase's (better) version of Binance Smart Chain (BSC) and we all know how much activity BSC saw during the bull & how that activity has sustained itself in the bear as well.

BSC is used heavily by people in Asia - that's why you won't hear people on here or CT talking about it much

I mean the first thing that got attention on Base was literally a memecoin called 'BALD' lol

And Base is a fully permissionless and open chain and Coinbase have said they want to decentralise it as well

BSC was home to the most degenerate of degenerate gambling

if Base wants to recreate that success they'll have to cater to that angle

I mean yes, but I think that was a function of bad timing more than anything else (plus companies have products that fail all the time).

Base gets to inherit Ethereum's network effect and also the network effect of the whole OP Stack (since Base is going to be part of the 'Superchain').

Was Coinbase's NFT marketplace not a massive failure? 

I get why consumers would end up on a chain like base... but what about the devs? 

Is CB really going to be able to make a network effect that would trigger the symbiotic relationship between creators and consumers on base?

I don't think games are going to take off on rollups b/c even though rollups are cheap (and will get much cheaper over time), something like a Validium (where data is stored off-chain) is much cheaper and better suited for gaming.

So I think Base is much more likely to have a vibrant DeFi ecosystem than anything else.

I do wonder how this will impact the TVL distribution and by extension defi across L2s.

Do you think it will pull a meaningful percentage of assets there to have a vibrant defi ecosystem or do you think it’ll be more consumer facing (with gaming and such)?

Not yet but Coinbase has been quick to add direct bridges from their platform to other L2's (OP Mainnet and Arbitrum One) so I'm willing to bet that on launch day (August 9th) or near it, there will be native bridging from Coinbase to Base.

Have there been any signs of a CB->Base onboarding funnel yet?
