The beauty of a sandy beach is marred by plastic lids. And this is not a rare phenomenon: lids are one of the most common types of plastic litter on European beaches. For example, an average of 110 lids can be found on 100 meters of the Mediterranean coastline. To fight plastic pollution, European officials decided to screw caps onto bottles. Now in the EU countries they cannot be removed - you can only bend them off (or tear them off with force). Because of this, the caps are always in the way when drinking: they scratch your cheeks, get in your nose, and sometimes liquid spills out of them. Customers call the innovation "the worst thing that has happened to mankind since the headphone jack was removed from smartphones". And TikTok is viralizing videos with tips on how to drink water properly. Is there a point to screw-on lids? And how can we basically save the world from plastic?
