Augusta Ada King, Countess of LovelaceĀ was an English mathematician and writer, chiefly known for her work onĀ Charles Babbage's proposed mechanical general-purposeĀ computer, theĀ Analytical Engine. She was the first to recognise that the machine had applications beyond pure calculation.
