Marc Andreeseen laying out a straightforward case for just making the government better on Bari Weiss’ show: BW: “We don’t want to live in a country where there is no public health authority…” https://open.spotify.com/episode/1REqvbgCX8PNcH3Je0iVRG?si=NA1VuOs3QFaOT2HgVZ72UA&context=spotify%3Ashow%3A0GRPAKeSMASfbQ7VgNwYCR

MA: “Oh 100%. But look, what built the government we have today is in the 1930’s Roosevelt like dramatically transformed the government…It was the Ycombinator of its time, right, the federal government was the Ycombinator of 1933. The New Deal right…”

>"the federal government was the Ycombinator of 1933.” man, that guy is so high off his own supply. The problem isn't in that we shouldn't innovate. Its that to Marc Andressen, we should remove the government from this position so that the wealth generated by these innovations don't go to a public good(ideally, I'll grant you), but to parasitic middle men like him. Why wouldn't a gatekeeper like MA prefer extended methods for treating symptoms and extracting out more wealth, than a quick and easy cure? Google revolutionized the internet, until it needed to return on its investment and became a surveillance behemoth that sells our data. Why wouldn't our innovations become later nightmares meant to oppress us if it means Marc Andressen's personal net worth goes up?

Pretty convincing argument, but it's very high level, devil is in the details. I like the idea in general though. Thanks for the thread of quotes 👍
