Been working in the space for 2 years now and orbiting in the space since Mt. Gox days. 

Governance becomes surprisingly hard, even something as simple as collecting votes requires off chain counting or something bridging data like CCIP. Also bridged tokens, as a lot of people learned when multichain imploded.

More practically juggling all the RPC connections when you have a global user base can be surprisingly annoying to solve in a robust manner. Other things like resolving ENS names require extra plumbing because it is mandatory to have a Mainnet connection in addition to the native/active chain of the app.

Final and most annoying thing comes from end user education, how do you explain to newly onboarding users that Base isn't Zora isn't Optimism, and that is just one stack of one L2, add that USDC has bridged and native versions and fragmented liquidity and also what liquidity is.... It's just a UX nightmare.

Operationally managing all of the various weekly and monthly tasks at a high level can become annoying if core infra, price oracles and multi-sigs, aren't deployed or are alternative providers i.e. swapping Chainlink to Redstone or API3
