Measuring the quantity of money involves counting the assets used for transactions in an economy. In simple economies, such as prisoner-of-war camps using cigarettes or Yap Island using "fei" as currency, measuring the quantity is straightforward. In complex economies, various forms such as paper money, coins, and bank deposits need to be considered, and all these "money" forms must be added together to measure the quantity of money. Currency, consisting of unsettled paper money and coins, is the most directly visible form of money.
