Anyone know of any systematic writing on design spaces? As in I give you a set of elements and you go explore what can be done with. Like a set of Lego blocks for example. 

Even just two identical 2x4 Lego blocks can connect in 24 different configurations if I counted right and the space explodes from there. So you how do you search to dus over or invent good ones.
