i haven't read any of the books (got or this), do i need to have read the got books for this one or is it a standalone? how good is the book compared to the show? might add it to the read list

The book is good bro. As far as the series progress, i say they are following the book. There's just slight revision, but 90% is based on book... sooo far. 

I hope they won't ruin hotd just like how they massacred Got s8:D
