He was a Dutch printer, designer and painter of German origin. He was the most prominent Dutch engraver of the early Baroque or Northern Mannerist period, admired for the sophisticated technique, technical skill and "cultivation" of his works.

Hendrik Goltzius, a German-born Dutch printmaker, designer and painter, was one of the most prominent Dutch engravers of the early Baroque or Northern Mannerism period.  He is admired for his intricate technique, outstanding technical skill and the care he takes in cultivating his works.  With his extraordinary ability to carve, Goltzius created highly detailed and dynamic figures that demonstrate his mastery of detail and deep understanding of form and movement.  His works remain as outstanding examples of Baroque art.
