eh maybe but I also feel like people are blown away by cheap gas on "Ethereum". Polygon has existed for a while and is EVM compatible but Ethereum L2s feel different than side chains

Very different. Ethereum L2s use ETH as the fee token, so transacting on L2s supports and builds upon Ethereum More to it than this, but one prime example

fwiw I think bridging is still enough of a pain, similar to how swapping over to sidechain tokens used to be before
