Alright so I think the BoringCaster v1 experiment has ended.

The original hypothesis was: If I build a fc client that only lets me post, I'll spend less time scrolling and instead just use fc to only put out ideas

Actual results below!

Ok, so I was able to solve *that* problem by making a shortcut that opened BoringCaster whenever I clicked twitter/Warpcaster on my phone https://i.imgur.com/a6tjCPA.jpg

So, that brought me to the next phase: I was using BoringCaster exclusively on my phone, without access to twitter or warpcaster.

Did I start scrolling less and posting more?

Well... no. I just ended up not using social media at all for a bit because BoringCaster was *too* boring

Reasons why it was too boring:

- I didn't have feedback on my posts

As in, there was no replies that I could see, and I didn't have a notifications inbox like I do on warpcaster to see the replies or likes.

Which turns out, is quite demotivating!

Ok so maybe this is a foregone conclusion to most. Of course you say, you need replies and likes to make social media interesting!

And sure, I agree. But it was interesting to find this out with a practical experiment.

I thought maybe my desire to put my ideas out there would be enough, but it turns out it wasn't!

What other findings did I have?

Well, BoringCaster *did* break me out of my usual social media routine. Now, after starting to use the twitter and warpcaster apps again, I find that don't really scroll anymore. I just post and open the apps to see the feedback from those posts!

So in a way, it was helpful for the original goal. 

But I guess the experiment is interesting because I thought BoringCaster would lead me to only using BoringCaster (and adding replies + notifs), but in the end it sorta just changed how I use the apps I already used

Turns out, the first attempt at trying BoringCaster for a couple of days resulted in: 

- I stopped using BoringCaster right away in favor of using twitter + warpcaster (because of muscle memory)

Building poolfish.xyz (/poolfish). A calculator for LP providers. Cooking /hotpotato. Built Potion solo to $6k+ MRR and sold for $300k.

Yes! Or at least, that's my next idea to try. 

Honestly though, I kinda lost motivation to work on BoringCaster after I stopped using it, so I'll have to come back to it and add those things lol.

If you made it only be replies and notifications that could make it better?

Yeah for sure! It’s one of those insights that we all take for granted, so it’s fun to test those assumptions one by one. Maybe some won’t be valid

Nice experiment and surprising insight - you need feedback. 

It does seem obvious in hindsight, but not always clear when looking forward.
