the more I use chatGPT for non-programming uses (like learning math), the more my trust in it is shaken. I consistently catch mistakes in its reasoning for math problems to the point where I've started to push more of my learning towards textbooks/youtube videos instead of chatGPT

With plugins it's much more effective. Or by using Langchain as a controller You can get better results. Best Not to rely on it alone for facts and math... But as a way to transform effects and math into natural language.
