I was just talking to my son about growing up without it and how our quiet moments were just that, quiet. We don’t have quiet moments anymore.

Yeah I remember that and sometimes think about all the "spare time" I had back then.

I saw a comedian’s real the other day. He was talking about mindfulness and how back in our day, you’re waiting for the bus… mindfulness. Waiting for a friend… mindfulness because there was no phone to fill those moments. It was really funny. That’s what prompted my conversation with Kai. He didn’t get the joke because he never lived that experience and the difference in life now.

yeah, I even do that now...sometimes just think and don't look at my phone. What's interesting is that when I went to Texas to view the eclipse, I camped by a river (alone) and I brought books, my ukulele, a journal, etc. and I thought I would do these things in my "spare time" at the campsite. There was wonderfully no cell service (but I could drive a few minutes to get it. I ended up just sitting there for long periods of time, listening to the birds and then the frogs/crickets at night. It was somehow just so wonderful to just....exist and experience what was happening. It's like I just needed that. It was like a detox from this world of chaos and "things" everywhere, every minute.

This is very insightful — comedians really are modern day philosophers
