My wooden wicks come as a default 5' but I need them to be 3.1'. Up until now I've been manually cutting them with garden shears, and it makes my hand sore. So I was thinking a saw might be better, but I have concerns that the edges would be too jagged. What do you think?

A miter saw/table saw with a fine finish saw blade can make really clean cuts. If you want to go table saw route, you can get or make a cross cut sled imo this is overkill for a v1, but tons of videos on how to DIY your own sled pretty quickly. 5' is pretty long for a sled, but possible if you have the room. Depending on the depth, you could probably jig up a circular saw to do this also. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWZVL568c0Q

Thanks for the lovely and in detailed answers! Probably won’t be cutting my wicks on my own for much longer but great suggestions :)
