Anyone saying "nothing happened" during Trump's first term: This happened. He created a culture of openly supporting violence against political enemies, and its almost entirely on one side. I've never heard a progressive say they want Trump or other republicans to be killed. His supporters routinely tell any stranger with a camera and microphone that's exactly what they want for democrats.

just because you first saw something during an event, it doesn't mean that the event caused the thing. the event might just be what got your attention.

Fair point. The shameless rage baiting & racist dog whistles in rightwing media for decades prior to Trump is arguably more to blame.

do you think it's possible that maybe there were underlying socioeconomic issues that have sidelined parts of the population over long periods of time and have led them here? not for certain. but maybe?

100% - I was knocking on doors for Bernie Sanders 9 years ago for that reason :) My problem is with all the republicans who had moral clarity about Trump until his following grew too big for them to criticize him without threatening their status, so they bent the knee.

putting his supporters aside how do you feel about trump's republican party? it's significantly different than the previous dynasty. there's been a major realignment too. lots of folks left and lots of new folks are in the mix. could be that they can't ignore his following but could also be that this is a different take?
