Ted Chiang is really all over the place quality-wise. Some stories get to Borges level, others seem like clumsy excuses for tedious pontificating. I’m about 70% done with the Exhalation collection. Title story is the best so far.

he’s extremely corny… but I thought some of it, like “Life of Software Objects” was good. It’s also a very easy read
