🙂 All right. Let’s go a few rounds. Our mutual friend @mazmhussain can adjudicate. (1) First: startup societies are based on 100% consent. No one is there who hasn’t chosen to be there. No one is in a hierarchy if they haven’t opted into that hierarchy. Signing the social contract to join a community is much like signing a contract to join a company: you view the docs, make an informed decision, and opt out if it doesn’t work. That right to exit is the fundamental right. (2) Second: not all existing laws are good laws, like the PATRIOT Act. Sunsetting *some* laws doesn’t mean you don’t believe in laws in the abstract. (3) Third: you likely have views on what your ideal community would be. Maybe it’s a vegan village. Maybe it’s modern Amish, where tech is paused at the level of flip phones and people enjoy each other’s company. If you ever decided to build such a peaceful, opt-in community, then we would support you. And that’s what startup societies are about.

We knew very little about how LLMs actually work...until now. @AnthropicAI just dropped the most insane research paper, detailing some of the ways AI "thinks." And it's completely different than we thought.

Dartmouth just ran the first clinical trial with a generative AI therapy chatbot—results: depression symptoms dropped 51%, anxiety by 31%, and eating disorders by 19%. “Therabot,” built on Falcon and Llama, was fine-tuned with just tens of thousands of hours of synthetic therapist-patient dialogue. Imagine what can be done training with millions of hours of real therapy data 👀 home.dartmouth.edu/news/2025/03/f…

No reindustrialization without dedollarization. But dedollarization means imperial collapse. On the other hand, so does deindustrialization! This is the fundamental paradox.

This is big, and insanely ambitious: China now plans to have an operational fusion-fission nuclear power plant by 2030, in less than 5 years 👀 What's more, the "Q value" (simply put: how much energy you get out compared to what you put in) that the project aims for is more than 30. In other words, for every unit of energy used to run the reactor, they aim to produce 30 units back. For comparison, the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) under construction in France is targeting a Q value above 10. And the US National Ignition Facility achieved a Q of only 1.5 in 2022. will use fusion reactions to create neutrons (high-energy particles). These neutrons then hit a surrounding layer of uranium or thorium, causing those materials to split in traditional nuclear reactions.

AI Agents are *the* big topic for enterprises right now. In most conversations with IT leaders, this is the main thing they are figuring out strategies for. There is a lot of excitement and momentum, and equally a realistic sense of the work that’s ahead. Here are some of the major topics that come up when companies start to think about deploying AI Agents at scale: 1. Agent interoperability: enterprises don’t have their data in just one environment. Salesforce may have their CRM records, Box their documents, Workday their HR data, or ServiceNow their HR and IT workflows; and plenty of Agentic use-cases will span these systems. As an industry we will need to design more interaction patterns for how AI Agents talk to each other and exchange data in the future.

my unsolicited 2 cents is that farcaster feels and is a tight nit community, rather than a network that's a good thing, but also a bad thing for the network? maybe? every time i open up warpcast, every cast is either referencing some new "iykyk" meta, or about crypto and as someone who isnt as interested in crypto as i used to be, i use fc less, because fc casts are very crypto/meta heavy, and if you dont know the meta, you're out of the loop if i had to ask Dan one question, it would be if he see's this as a positive or a negative, does Dan want casts to very crypto centric or more broad/different topics?

A few thoughts on the new ChatGPT image release. (1) This changes filters. Instagram filters required custom code; now all you need are a few keywords like “Studio Ghibli” or Dr. Seuss or South Park. (2) This changes online ads. Much of the workflow of ad unit generation can now be automated, as per QT below. (3) This changes memes. The baseline quality of memes should rise, because a critical threshold of reducing prompting effort to get good results has been reached. could see shot-for-shot remakes of old movies in new visual styles, with dubbing just for the artistry of it. Though these might be more interesting as clips than as full movies. (10) In general, visual styles have suddenly become extremely easy to copy, even easier than frontend code. Distinction will have to come in other ways.
