My favorite social media that didn't make it was Path. It was a 50 follower only, super beautiful one. The second one was Vine (which came back as tik-tok but I never installed that one). What's yours?

Seeing a lot of people saying Foursquare / Swarm but Iโ€™m still going on with check-ins since 2010! Iโ€™ll Also, Path was just a delight to use. Facebook Paper app was equally full of fun.

Foursquare for me. Still use Swarm today for a database of cool places Iโ€™ve been. Also Couple, the chat app tailored to relationships. Best cutesy feature was the thumb kiss. ๐Ÿ˜˜

Path as well, I was like the only human in Michigan at the time that knew what it was. MySpace was 1 million times better than Facebook ever was too, so thereโ€™s another instance of shite winning out over something better.

I really liked Tribe, name aside. The idea of many micro-networks so that you could easily code-switch between different interest and friend groups in one place was great.

Story time: I gained root access to Path (all db and production source code, which I think was mostly ruby?) Made a poc etc, and they invited me to the office and got a bounty of swag and a job offer that I didnโ€™t take. Sad to see it fail after the acquisition by Kakao. I used to play with it every day.

Meerkat was mind-blowing. First day on, someone was taking a ride on an open tour bus in NYC, another was at the back of a country music concert, another smoking a joint on a hike. Felt like you were there with them.
