A very interesting part of this is how much incentive Facebook has that this bet works (stop depending on apple and google platforms).

It’s less of a pure belief, rather aligns critically with facebook economics (not commenting on it being right or wrong just observing incentives).

Yep, I agree. FWIW I think facebook is really good at 2) AI and underrated in that area. At Cruise the best AI people we hired always came from there.

+1. It seems that they had no other way. There we 3 major techs to bet on:

1) Crypto - they tried but regulators turned it into hell.
2) AI - they were already good at it, but it didn't seem like a natural strategic move that builds on their 3B+ userbase.
3) VR/AR - they went all in.
