Base & Farcaster both need more counter cultures Crypto needs *intetnal* counter culture We have essentially three major cultures as I see it: startup & milady & zealot Milady = shitcoin traders on sol, rug pullers in discord trenches making memes that Elon retweets Startup = tech people, VCs, people with real jobs at companies Zealots = nerds & ideologues who were here early for strong, intellectual and political reasons. Mission driven, highly technical. There is plenty of overlap, and lots of retail & alt-chain grifters with no real identity in between. We need space for people who don’t really identify with the stuff we have done, but who are down to use crypto for their own reasons. We need those people & we need big culture wars with them. Would be good to see some fresh juice in the system vibes wise

Kinda a corollary to niche communities and cozy corners, yeah? Whatever Reddit’s flaws, I know I often can find a vibrant group of kindred spirits there for whatever my interests of the moment are. Example: I, a no longer young person, recently decided to try longboarding after a decades-long hiatus from the casual skating of my youth. I quickly found r/longboarding, r/longboardingDISTANCE, and r/OldSkaters, to name just a few. That “community on demand” experience still feels a long way off on Farcaster.

yes 100% think in crypto the base layer is much more *deterministic* than in reddit, more self-selecting users. you don't have a wallet with ETH without knowing X or Y, you can stumble on reddit from a google search. which is why I think we'll get more newcomers via culture than tech we have a long way to go, but headed in the right direction

For starters, though, I’d love just to see better seeding of new/emerging channels. It would be cool if, from time to time, a notice would pop up saying something like: “You and [10 other tagged users] have recently casted about [TOPIC]. You might like [EXISTING CHANNEL NOT YET JOINED]. Or maybe you would like to create [NEW CHANNEL] and invite them to join you there?” As much as I want Farcaster to grow from without, it feels like we already have diverse interests and views here that aren’t necessarily reflected as vibrant channels. Maybe Moxie + channel changes will help, but I kinda just wish we could just vampire attack a bunch of subreddits 😆
