I think the ‘Haitians are eating house pets’ lie is racist. Idk if it’s abstract - we don’t have any evidence it happened, there’s no obvious connection between missing pets & “ethnic minority population that lives nearby” is there ambiguity here I’m missing? This discussion does distract from policy debates. So are we meant to respond to “Haitians are eating house pets” with policy questions? Would love to hear people’s thoughts

Also the person who first spoke on it was a person using the pseudonym was Nathaniel Higgers. The real question should be if immigration is causing all these actual real world issues then why push obviously manufactured bullshit

It is 100% racist and referring to it as abstract is so unbelievably out of touch that I cannot take this person seriously

I think people discussing it is normal, but if we are ever going to meaningfully talk policy it would help to start from common ground. If there is disagreement about the racisn, that shit matters. We’re really quick to blame voters for the terms of debate set out by politicians
