question for the overthinkers: what’s something that has helped you while you’re in a constant state of overthinking? genuinely struggling atm and could use something more than “don’t think so much” or “stop overthinking and just do it” as advice.

pick 1 thing to focus on (object, breathing, anything) watch your mind / thoughts while focusing on it when you feel your focus begin to shift, revert to what you're focusing on, repeat over and over until you can catch yourself faster I used to meditate daily just to train my mind to catch myself overthinking / not being able to focus and it definitely helped when I was doing it, it's a for life kind of thing though for sure :/

probably an annoying answer, but the only thing that seems to really help for me is observing the mental pattern and figuring out what fear is driving it. then dealing with that fear. it’s often along the lines of trying to predict catastrophes and then preemptively dealing with them

I did yoga for the first time in over a year two days ago. That paired with putting my phone in Do Not Disturb mode actually really did the trick for 30 minutes.

1. Get a stopwatch. 2. Sit in a quiet place. 3. Get ready and turn on the stopwatch. 4. Measure how long you can stay in the state of overthinking. 5. Stop the stopwatch when overthinking stops.

a hobby that requires my full attention like crocheting or knitting when it's really bad I'll multitask that with a distracting audiobook...

Telling myself to actively "Stop!". Most of the time you have the awareness anyway, but telling yourself and trusting yourself is the next step. An active "Stop!" can help.
