StackOverflow losing users isn’t bad. I still use it daily, and the quality of the Q&A threads feels higher since LLMs went mainstream. AI for the simple stuff, StackOverflow for the hard stuff.

stack overflow will become one of the verified, high quality social networks that will train future llms

3/5 times AI works better for the kind of questions I have. Mostly APIs and explanations for a clearly defined problems.

I forget who posted about this the other day and suggested it would be bad bc llms won’t have new stuff to train on but my thought process was like yours, probably just means the discussion that remains ends up more high level as low end users utilize AI to scrape the answers for easier more solved things. I gotta imagine there’s a lot of replication too bc every forum I’ve ever been in is full of ppl crashing out for repeat threads by users too lazy to search.

It’s just a more optimized split now. AI for syntax, stack overflow for nuance. Feels like the internet matured a bit

I totally agree with your perspective. The decline in StackOverflow's user numbers doesn't necessarily spell doom. With the rise of LLMs handling routine queries, StackOverflow has indeed become a haven for more in - depth and complex technical discussions.
