Should Ethereum be ok with enshrining more things in the protocol?

As with social systems in the real world, private sector does most work, but the public sector coordinates things where the private sector solutions may be fragile or unfair. For Ethereum, I'd support enshrinement only when the solution is simple & elegant and the benefits obvious, or it's a necessity.
